usweb - front end
cks - brandbuild
mmg - management consulting
wh - back end

@ G@G
Machen alle so.

Marchfirst
Kursziel 2,5 USD, Datum : 21.02.2001, Zeit :13:00

marchFIRST Names IBM Global Alliance Partner of the Year
Also Honors Blue Martini at Velocity Technology Conference
CHICAGO (February 22, 2001) - marchFIRST, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRCH), a leading global professional services company, today announced that it named IBM as its Global Alliance Partner of the Year for 2000 at Velocity, marchFIRST`s first-annual alliance partner technology conference. The Company also named Blue Martini Software (Nasdaq: BLUE) as its Strategic Alliance Partner of the Year, an honor recognizing a new relationship that marchFIRST formed in 2000.
The winners were determined by the votes of approximately 750 marchFIRST technology consultants, business development professionals and executives from around the world who attended Velocity in Las Vegas February 16-19.
"Great things come from great partnerships," said David Carlucci, General Manager of IBM Americas. "Working together with marchFIRST we are delivering first-rate e-business solutions to a growing number of customers. We`re proud to be recognized by marchFIRST as its Global Alliance Partner of the Year."
Said Frank Eagle, Vice President, Service Alliances for Blue Martini Software, "We are delighted to have been recognized as the marchFIRST Strategic Alliance Partner of the Year. We consider marchFIRST to be a strong, customer-focused partner, working with us to implement multi-channel e-business projects that drive revenue and create competitive advantage for our worldwide customer base."
Velocity brought the marchFIRST representatives together with more than 200 leaders from 21 alliance partners. The conference offered more than 180 sessions, presented by the alliance partners, which provided training on their latest technologies as well as strategies for selling these solutions in the marketplace. Additionally, marchFIRST executives - including Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Bernard - conducted a series of meetings with executives from the alliance partner organizations.
Partner keynote speakers included Carlucci and George Everhart, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales for 3Com.
In their keynote addresses, Bernard and Thomas Metz, marchFIRST President and Chief Operating Officer, highlighted the important role alliance partners play in supporting the m1 Solutionsm, marchFIRST`s client-focused go-to-market strategy.
"Velocity was a tremendous opportunity for us to gather with leaders from our valued alliance partners, learn about their latest technology innovations, identify new business opportunities and discuss ways to serve our joint clients and customers better," said Robert Wise, Chief Technology Officer for marchFIRST. "I am extremely grateful to all of our partners for the commitment and support they demonstrated in making Velocity a success."

Hallo Marchfirstgemeinde,
nettes Wochenende gehabt? Was bringt wohl die Woche? Also erstmal keine neuen News.

@G@G

Bender said he also continues to own benighted Web consulting company marchFIRST , which tumbled from a high of $81 to a low of $1.06 over the past 18 months. He thinks the firm made a “horrible mistake” in its ill-timed merger with USWeb, but will eventually “pull out of it and do their thing.” He stopped buying new shares seven months ago, but hasn’t sold any meaningful amounts either – betting that the company will earn 7 cents in fiscal 2001 and 20 cents in fiscal 2002, and trade a lot higher as it resumes its natural growth rate of 30%. “They have very low debt -- and if you’re not a borrower, you can’t go out of business. They have a great customer list. Anyone could buy them just for their contacts,” he claimed.
Of all Bender’s positions, it’s marchFIRST that I find the most intriguing. Even after a 100% advance so far this year, it is still trading at less than a tenth of its book value -- not to mention a price/sales multiple of less than 0.50. Insiders have been buying the stock regularly at prices as high as $48.70 last spring, but also at $4.99 and $1.81 as recently as October and November. The Chicago-based firm announced a cost-cutting program that entailed 550 layoffs last week. There’s certainly risk left in the stock, but if you’re ready to make a pass at a decent dot-com that could double again by the time teams for Super Bowl XXXVI are chosen, you could do worse.

Noch Fragen zu meiner Stimmung ?
I can assure you that these ARE CURRENT CLIENTS of marchFIRST. m1 is currently partnered with Harley-Davidson, Phillip Morris, American Airlines, adidas, the SC Johnson companies, 3com, Walgreens, and many more. In addition, we are tightly partnered with many leading technology companies, including IBM, Microsoft, 3com, Oracle, Blue Martini, ATG, Novell, and Sun.
marchFIRST can, and will, return to a leadership position in the technology (note that I did NOT say "internet") services market. The internet is only one facet of the technological challenges that companies face every day.
************************************************************
Sun, for one, has signed a deal with MarchFirst to resell its servers, and is in talks with many others about similar arrangements. IBM likewise is undergoing the same kinds of discussions with Web integrators, sources say.
"MarchFirst was the first deal we signed," says Joe Womack, VP of Americas partner sales at Sun. "But there will be more to follow. What we`re seeing is a huge blurring between consultants and VARs, and between a nontitle-transfer business model and a title-transfer one."
MarchFirst declined to comment on the Sun deal, but iXL did note it has been in discussions with Sun and others. So far, iXL hasn`t shifted its model from pure services.
************************************************************
The talk was all about how Web systems integrators need to find good partners to help clients move business to the Internet.
But after the panel discussion Sunday, Feb. 25, by the chief executives of iXL, MarchFirst and Razorfish, hosted by IBM at its Partnerworld conference in Atlanta, some officials said they still didn`t see true partnership in practice.
"They`re being forced to. It`s painful for them," said Christine Overby, an analyst at Forrester Research.
Finding the right partners is increasingly critical to Web integrators, which link Internet technology to older computer systems, and their customers.
Businesses want both help with broader, more complex problems and more effective results on their investments. As companies add customer relations, supply chains, collaborative product design, procurement and other areas to the mix of services they want to integrate, more and more consultants find they need outside help themselves.
"No one integrator will be able to deliver across all those areas," Overby said. "The days of the end-to-end service provider are over."
There`s a lot at stake for the systems integrators, which have seen their stocks tumble as the dot-com bubble burst last summer.
There`s also lots of opportunity that integrators believe they can tap.
"There`s quite a few silver linings," said Jeffrey Dachis, chief executive of Razorfish.
Companies continue to want to hire outsiders to set up new information technology systems, Overby said. About three-quarters surveyed recently expect to buy consulting services this year, and two-thirds expect to pay more for outsourced help.
That`s because companies believe there`s much to gain by using the Internet to sell products and services, provide customer service and work with partners and employees. While many large companies now make about 5.6 percent of their revenue over the Internet now, this number is expected to grow to 23.5 percent within five years, Overby said.
If demand for outside help on computer and Web systems is so high, why are systems integrators struggling? Overby believes it`s because customers don`t yet see them providing clear answers to the problems they face.
Part of this is the nature of the cycle. Previous waves of computer spending have been tied to recognizable movements like client-server technology, internal re-engineering, and enterprise-wide computing systems like Oracle.
The latest wave, e-business, is different. While it started out as Web sites, and evolved into procurement and transactions, it is morphing to include even more processes.
"It`s about many waves. These are infinitely complex and varied," Overby said. "We haven`t seen the delivery evolve to match the complexity," she said.
So now systems integrators are seeking outside partners, a point that IBM itself stressed.
"We need partners to be successful," said Anne Smith, vice president of IBM`s consultants and integrators unit, when introducing the panel.
The integrators sometimes take widely different approaches to this.
"We don`t partner with the Big Five (consultants like KPMG and Ernst & Young). We replace them," said Robert Bernard, chairman and CEO of MarchFirst. Because they don`t know how to use new digital technology, the company prefers to work with specific technology vendors, such as application providers, platform builders like Sun Microsystems or Microsoft, or infrastructure providers, rather than rival consultants.
A few minutes later, iXL`s new CEO explained why it welcomed help from the Big Five consultants.
"They bring skill sets that we don`t bring," said Christopher Formant, who had more than one reason. "They`re so large I`d personally like to create a more symbiotic relationship so they don`t crush us."
Formant said outright that he was brought in to turn around iXL, one of the most badly hurt integrators. Formerly head of PricewaterhouseCoopers` global banking consulting unit, he said he plans to hire new talent and partner with a software development company in India to cut costs.
The question remains whether they can work together with other firms, at a time when Overby says customers often work with between seven and 10 e-business companies.
"Most want to own the client," Overby said. "It`s much easier to keep a current client relationship than to grow a new one," let alone risk the partner transferring the client to a competing technology.
Such competition got in the way of Walmart.com`s effort to go live on the Internet. Gray Interactive joined Cambridge Technology Partners in 1999 to build front-end Web functions on top of the internal systems Cambridge was developing for Walmart.com, but the effort failed miserably. It`s unclear how much that set back Walmart.com, which most industry officials say finally got the Internet formula right only in 2000.
Although such pairings of consultants will only be more common, they continue not to talk to each other, and problems on one-half of an integration create trouble in the other, she said.
"Clients say it`s hard as hell. I don`t have one neck to choke," she said.
There are signs, however, that integrators are learning the partnership lesson. Integrators need to identify their skill sets and carve out their specialty expertise, which will clarify the partnerships they need to strike. Customers may begin to see signs of differentiation this year, she said.
The integrators weren`t showing much of this yesterday. When Overby asked them to identify what areas they do cover, the panelists responded with a long pause. Eventually they responded. Only MarchFirst`s Bernard gave a specific answer, pointing to skills with supply chain and customer relationship management.
But until the integrators` management provides clear answers about the specialties they pursue, it`s also less clear how they`ll solve their partnership issues and capitalize on the growing hunger for e-business.
marchFIRST can, and will, return to a leadership position in the technology (note that I did NOT say "internet") services market. The internet is only one facet of the technological challenges that companies face every day.

But until the integrators` management provides clear answers about the specialties they pursue, it`s also less clear how they`ll solve their partnership issues and capitalize on the growing hunger for e-business.

warte eben ab. Das Gefühl ist da. Zweimal drehte der Nasdag ins Plus. Warum?

Quelle: Stephan Heibel http://ekip.de

Q: Are you looking at any other areas?
A: We`re not hugely focused on this, but the services companies have been completely decimated. The better ones are the consultancy businesses with people with leading-edge skills, which are all priced to go out of business. They`ve got cost-basis ahead of their revenue but once they`ve adjusted their costs they`ll come back. We`ve started buying shares of MarchFirst. MarchFirst has a great customer list and very bright people so it ought to make a lot of money.
**********************************************************
MarchFIRST is an Internet professional services firm that provides a suite of services to help companies capitalize on opportunities created by the Internet and by the new communications technologies. "Yawn", you say? Wrong! MarchFIRST also provides integrated application hosting services and plans to provide access to venture capital and external funding sources as well, to clients ranging from early stage Internet start-up companies to Global 2000 companies. Having lost customers due to the dot-com crash, the company is currently undergoing a transition to become less of a front-end web consulting firm and more of a back-end Internet software and technology integration advisor. "MarchFIRST is one of the few newer companies that has potential to survive because it has expertise in implementing new software and a customer base among Global 500 companies," points out Drake Johnstone, an analyst at Davenport&Co.
At first glance, investors might not think MarchFIRST - an Internet consulting firm beset by layoffs and budget cuts - would come back, but a few high-level company personnel believe differently. According to Baseline, MRCH had two insider buys and no sales during the past three months: on October 27, COO Thomas Metz reported purchasing 100,000 shares at $4.99 and director Barry Moore reported buying 20,000 shares at $1.81.
What makes MRCH such a compelling buy today? First, it is the undisputed leader in the sector. Further, with sizable new capital in place, it is in a position to increase its lead over some of the struggling also-rans in the field, such as Razorfish (RAZF), Sapient (SAPE), IXL (IIXL), Viant (VINT) and, to a limited degree, Sagent (SGNT). It has already announced the kind of house-cleaning that will pave the way to profitability and to re-inventing the enterprise. Finally, as a stock play, it has tremendous leverage, a low price, the ability to move lightning fast and excellent liquidity. With the concessus 2001 EPS estimate at 18c a share, we feel this undervalued stock should be a core component of any portfolio at this juncture

Rumors" on marchFIRST, mundane though they may be
From: Name withheld upon request.
To: ron@themayreport.com
I feel bad for the person who said "Top people fired, and office closings. Check your sources if you have `em." This poor soul is obviously angry, perhaps laid off and skilless, and longing to read about more dirt on the company they blame for their personal problems.
Here`s some rumors you can print from an extremely unreliable source (me).
- marchFIRST still has a negative cash flow, but the size of the deficit is shrinking due to plans to gradually return to positive flow and profitability.
- Bob Bernard is not leaving.
- The bad receivables are all but written off, and current clients are paying the bills.
- Francisco Partners are actively involved in ensuring that their investment pays off in the form of a healthy, profitable practice.
- The company is not "on the block" to be sold to PeopleSoft or anyone else. I feel bad for the fool who made up that tale as well.
- Many employees actually enjoy their jobs, their high salary, bonus programs and cutting-edge work, and are hanging in for the long haul.
I realize that this is very controversial stuff, perhaps you`d like to verify my statements with a few other sources before you print it. Not that you`re in the habit of doing such things.
